Guess what I am doing

See previous post.

I talked to Heidi (which was nice) but I was still antsy, so I went for a walk. I got lost in the local technical college, found a landmark and headed back to the hotel. When I walked in I noticed on the guys from meeting at the hotel bar and, as I also wanted a drank, I sat down next to him and ordered a drink. We talked about work, Japan, meetings, being recently married, alcohol (Japanese, Finnish), school, friends. It was a good conversation even if I was a dick and didn't even know enough of his language to even say hello to him. It made me think of languages and how... odd they are. This is a thought I have a lot that makes me feel uncomfortably stupid. I will avoid it now.

Anyways, we closed the hotel bar together (after sampling some liquor similar to Jagermeister but gross), then I headed up to my room. There is nothing to do here! I do not the concentration to read and the TV is incomprehensible to me! So I write this. Good night.

Hey look, I beat the spammers to the first comment. It is a victory against fake meat!

What`s odd about languages? The fact that people not from America can usually speak more than one? I don`t see how not speaking Finnish makes you stupid or a dick. If you`re stupid or a dick, it is probably for other reasons.

Didn`t you bring a hacky sack? That`s how I killed most of the time in Juarez/El Paso in July ..

Watch out for life .. das ist gut.

It is not the fact that I cannot speak the language it is because the language is a reminder of how little you know. I will never read a book in Finnish, I will never hold a conversation in Finnish... so a small piece of knowledge is inaccessible to me. Multiply that by all the other languages I do not know and that is a lot of stuff.

Footbag! Es ist Schoen!

yeah, but think about how big the world is, compared to the size of the human brain. Isn`t it unreasonable to think anybody could learn all the languages (without forgetting everything else, like how to wash one`s ass)?

hey, speaking of languages, give me something amusing to say to the new German guy here. So far he has struck me as overly serious and businesslike for his age (not old). I was explaining to him how to separate recyclable materials for bi-weekly collection, and he goes "why must we separate? In Germany separation is done by machine." I told him, "Please develop this kind of machinery." And he says, "But it already exist. You can buy from Germany."
